Its hard to catagorize, so I won't try. They've got some grit, but it isn't Tanya Tucker or Gretchen Wilson; its poppier than that. They sing about desire, and you feel it. Not every cut is equal, but its a strong album in every way. This CD is fun and energetic. Twin sisters Heather and Jennifer's appearance is misleading; this is powerful country/soul with a fun pop feel to it.
Their debut album was stunning, but this one may be even better. Some reviewers have compared this with early Dixie Chicks, but I'm not sure. They pack an emotional wallop, intimate and familiar at the same time with "She Aint The Girl for You." That tune sounds like a crossover success, likewise "You're Still Here" and "If Ever I Needed You." "I'm In" shines also, however "Somebody's Out There." was the only song from II to reach the country top 20. This is similar to Faith Hill, but I like it more. I recommend this highly and hope for the Kinleys return with more expressive, passionate music. This is an amalgam of styles, representative of girls from Philadelphia moving to Nashville.
Their harmonies are instantly recognizable.
4 stars even if on the lighter side of 4. The Kinnleys' follow-up CD doesn't do anything much different from the first disc. Here are songs to note:She Ain't the Girl for YouThat's Gonna Mess You Up - this song has more energy than most, a good oneWhen the Blues and My Baby Collide - nice to hear women think of the man's mood.Me TooYeah, yeah, yeah Here Somebody's Out There Watching The songs are fun, though not impressive, and there's a tendency to kind of sound alike, which fault the first album didn't have so much. It delivers nice easy listening country harmonies that are pleasing to the ear and don't make too much impact. I'd say this CD is even a bit weaker than the first, but not much and this is still a good effort.
The lyric in the song "Lovers" I find hilarious is "In a fit of anger at the horseshoe lounge, she took a swing and she knocked that hussy down." Its about a couple who has alot of problems and "ain't it a wonder, why they call them lovers". They prove that they still knew what to do after the success of their debut album. I had listened to the debut release from Heather and Jennifer which really delivered what country music should be all about. I was lucky to find this title at a good price. As it says in my title, the Kinleys show no sophomore album jitters. My other favorite songs on this CD includes "I'm In", which was also a single and recieved a fair amount of airplay on the radio, "Me Too" also has a good country vibe to it. "Lovers" is good, funny song with lyrics similar to "She Ain't the Girl For You".
You will not regret this purchase. The album ends on a good note with "Somebody's Watching Over Me" which was featured on the "Touched By An Angel" soundtrack so you know it delivers a good message of inspiration.
I believe it was also a single as well. Its a good love song its not fast and it ain't slow but sure is great.
It took me a while to finally purchase this second album because I couldn't find it in Wal Mart or any other music stores for that matter. One song that should've been a single is "Here".
So I give this 4 stars. Anyway, the album gets a good start with the first track, "She Ain't the Girl For You", which is about a friends pity towards a man who tolerates his girlfriend no matter what he puts her through.
Its about how you can relate to someone who has been through heartaches and disappointments in but it isn't a ballad.
"I'm In" is my all time favorite song and "She Ain't the Girl For You" is in the Top Ten. I can't wait until the Kinleys come out with their next album. I love this CD. The girls' voices are a pleasure to hear. Outstanding CD. Although many people have never heard of the Kinleys, they soon will. The more I listen to the songs the more I like them.
The cd is just that good. As a closing song, they deliver a masterful performance from their 1999 single, "Somebody's Out There Watching." All of these songs could/should be released to country radio. Heather and Jennifer Kinley's second album is proof that not all artists are cursed by the "sophomore jinx." This duo will give you goose bumps by their beautiful blends of harmony that only siblings can master. The album starts off rocking with their hit, "She Ain't the Girl for You," then into the catchy "I'm In" and never misses a beat throughout the entire album.
